Philosophy

John uses what is often referred to as an eclectic approach; he employs a variety of techniques personally tailored to best address and respond to the needs of each client. Different approaches may include cognitive, behavioral, play therapy, sandtray, and expressive therapies (art, imagery, drama, music, writing, digital media, etc.).

Expressive therapies are founded on the belief that healing can occur through the use of imagination and various forms of creative expression. No skills or talents are needed in expressive therapy—the process of creation is emphasized rather than the end product.

John has more than 25 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. His therapeutic approaches address:

  • Anxiety

  • Attention deficit disorder

  • Depression

  • Divorce

  • Family conflict

  • Grief and loss

  • Gender identity

  • Marital conflict

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder

  • Pornography addiction

  • Self-harm

  • Trauma
